While Ayanna is focused on advancing progress, a Republican presidential candidate campaigning in Iowa is attacking her.
Ayanna is focused on the people and we typically don’t engage in these bad-faith attacks but yesterday a line was crossed. A GOP candidate referred to Ayanna as “a modern grand wizard of the KKK” because she speaks out against racial injustice.
This is backwards and harmful, but that is the point. While we are pushing for progress, Republicans on the campaign trail are trying to rewrite history and fan the flames of racism. From banning books to vilifying educators, their tactics are tired but harmful nonetheless.
It’s not lost on us that invoking the KKK in an attack on a Black Congresswoman is intentional and deeply unacceptable.
