Dear friend,

I hope you’re having a great Saturday so far. Sharing this weekly newsletter with you has become one of my favorite parts of each week. If you like these weekly updates, feel free to forward them to your friends, families, and acquaintances so they can stay in the loop, too!

The Fight for Voting Rights Continues

Thursday marked the two-year anniversary of the House passing H.R. 4, the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act - legislation to restore the full power of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

I remember how proud I was to preside over the House as we passed that legislation. You can click below to watch that historic moment from two years ago.

On the anniversary of this vote, I am reminded of how much there is still to do to secure the most basic and fundamental right of every American – the right to vote. In John Lewis’ honor and for the future of our democracy, that fight continues so that each and every American's access to the ballot box is protected.

Working Towards a New Public Works Facility for Milton

I was in Milton this week where I joined Mayor Collier and Town Manager Kristy Rogers to discuss Milton’s Community Project Funding submitted through my office. Community Project Funding allows for nonprofit and governmental entities to apply for federal funding for community-based projects.

This potential federal funding would be used to help fund the construction of a new public works facility in Milton. The town’s current public works building sits on a flood plain and is impeding Milton’s ability to expand and provide quality services for its growing population. According to the town, Milton’s population is projected to at least double over the next 15 years so it’s important that it has a public works building that can meet community needs. To read more about the visit, please check out my website.

Georgetown Mobile Office Hours

Having served as a caseworker in then-Congressman Carper’s office, it’s important to me that Delawareans know about how my office can assist them through events such as our Mobile Office Hours! This is when members of my casework team are able to meet with Delawareans one-on-one to help them with issues regarding federal agencies. My team was so glad to assist those who came to Mobile Office Hours this past Tuesday at the Georgetown Public Library.

If you ever need assistance with federal agencies, please contact my office. My team can help with a wide range of issues including (but not limited to):

  • United States Postal Service

  • Social Security Administration

  • Veterans Affairs benefits and services

  • Passport and visa processing

  • Citizenship and naturalization

This Sunday is National Cinema Day so for this week’s Constituent Corner I’m highlighting local Lewes-based artist Amy Salganik. Amy’s work just recently won the 25th Anniversary Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival Artwork Contest! Her incredible drawing (pictured below) is called “Flock to the Films” and will be featured on the official program cover for the 2023 Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival. Congratulations on this exciting achievement, Amy!
