It was taken the morning after Election Day 2016. My team and I hadn’t slept the night before - we were poring over town-by-town results, nervously counting votes to see if we’d won. 

The mood was grim. Donald Trump had won the presidential election, and Democrats hadn’t picked up the Senate seats we’d hoped. Ours was the only race that hadn’t been called.

Look, I’ve lost races before. And we could’ve very easily lost this race or again in 2022. In fact, in the days leading up to the 2022 election, pundits and other Senators doubted whether we could win.

I’ll go on but first, can you rush $3 right now to protect our slim Democratic Senate majority and help make sure we never have a race this tight again?

[link removed] the last few days of the 2022 cycle, the GOP ramped up their spending and polls showed that our margins had tightened significantly. In order to win, my team made the strategic decision to spend more than we planned, hoping the money would come through later.

Unfortunately, all of that money hasn’t come through yet and we’re still paying down our 2022 bills. Will you rush $3 or as much as you can right now so that we can close the books once and for all? If we’re going to get this done, we need 14 people to give to this email and I hope that I can count on you to be one of them.
