Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here My Law Enforcement and Border Security Plans As part of my ongoing commitment to safeguarding our communities, this week I released my Law Enforcement and Border Security plans, which detail my efforts to support our communities’ safety and security. Throughout my tenure in Congress, I have remained committed to supporting legislation that stands against the “defund and demoralize the police” movement. Our plan supports public safety and brings our communities together. While migrant surges may not be new, the magnitude of this current crisis is unprecedented. That is why I have repeatedly called for the impeachment of President Joe Biden and Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over this crisis. I remain committed to fortifying our borders, restoring safety to our streets, and ending the migrant crisis plaguing our region and country. To view my full Law Enforcement Plan, click here. Supporting the Creation of a Space National Guard Now more than ever, as our adversaries continue to ramp up their space capabilities, we must enhance our own efforts and continue to focus on space exploration and defense. By supporting the creation of the Space National Guard as the primary reserve component of the U.S. Space Force, we are leveraging the technical expertise of part-time reservists who work full-time in the private sector. The bipartisan and bicameral support for the establishment of the Space National Guard illustrates the importance of cooperation in advancing our military capabilities. Notably, this would have a direct impact on the 222nd Command and Control Squadron, based in Rome, New York, which is part of the 107th Attack Wing, based at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station. This Air National Guard Squadron would be a natural fit for the Space National Guard. I look forward to the positive impact this will have on our region and on our nation's ability to maintain its dominance in space. READ MORE: Rep. Claudia Tenney pushes for establishing 'Space National Guard' Reintroducing the Local Law Enforcement Protection Act to Defend Qualified Immunity With crime rates continuing to surge across our country and assaults against our brave police officers on the rise, it is deeply concerning that Democrats in Congress and Albany continue to advocate for defunding the police and ending qualified immunity. This week, I met with the Ontario County Sheriff Department to discuss the ongoing crime crisis in our community. I also had the opportunity to deliver the keynote address at the Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy Graduation Ceremony where I reiterated my support for our men and women in blue. These brave officers, and law enforcement across our community risk their lives every day, and they deserve to be able to perform their duties without fear of frivolous lawsuits. By introducing the Local Law Enforcement Protection Act this week, I reiterated my commitment to always stand in solidarity with the courageous law enforcement officers who protect our community. Honoring a World War II Hero Last week, I had the distinct honor to recognize the bravery of Torpedoman's Mate Second Class Joseph Edward Joseph for his service in the Navy during World War II. Joseph Edward Joseph was honorably discharged from the United States Navy on January 4, 1946, after serving in World War II aboard the USS Aulick. On November 29, 1944, six Japanese planes attacked the Aulick in the Leyte Gulf while on anti-submarine patrol, with 31 men giving their lives in defense of their ship, fellow service members, and country, 64 being wounded, and one sailor missing in action. Joseph, for his actions and bravery, earned the Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, and foreign awards of the Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze battle star. Mr. Joseph served our country with distinction aboard the USS Aulick during World War II. Few things can be done to show our nation's true gratitude for his service, but I was humbled to be able to present these medals and awards to Mr. Joseph’s son in honor of his service. May these medals represent our national unity, resilience, and appreciation for the sacrifices made by Mr. Joseph and all our nation’s military heroes.
