Arise legislative recap: Feb. 25, 2020

Today, Feb. 25, is our annual Legislative Day, and we're excited to continue our efforts to untax groceries. Arise's Carol Gundlach talks about steps you can take to contact your lawmakers on this issue if you can't be there in person.

Alabama Arise's February 2020 newsletter

Untaxing groceries isn't the only way we're seeking to make life better for struggling Alabamians. Check out our February newsletter for more about our work on Medicaid expansion, public transportation funding and other important policy priorities. We also highlight a few examples of how our organizers are building power and equipping advocates throughout the state.

Why we're spreading the word about the Census across Alabama

A 10-question Census form may not seem like much, but the stakes are high. Census results guide the distribution of more than $700 billion a year in federal money for Medicaid, SNAP food assistance and other vital services. On our blog, organizer Mike Nicholson explains our grassroots work to get as many Alabamians counted as possible this year.
