Why MSF is releasing mosquitoes in Honduras to help prevent dengue
In Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where dengue fever rates have been high historically, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is using an innovative approach to prevent its spread by releasing mosquitoes carrying a type of bacteria that prevents the transmission of viruses including dengue, Zika, and chikungunya, among others. "Traditional methods are no longer effective to stop the spread,” said Edgar Boquin, project coordinator. “That’s why it is necessary to introduce complementary and innovative measures."Read more about how this project works >
