Georgia Republicans gear up to remove Fani Willis from office
Right on cue, Trump's sycophantic allies in the Georgia legislature are moving to punish the prosecutor who bravely handed the disgraced ex-president his fourth indictment. A new law passed earlier this year by those same Republicans established a commission of political appointees with the power to remove and discipline elected prosecutors...and you can see where this is going. The Public Rights Project nonprofit has already taken legal action to protect DA Willis, but the message is clear — the GOP will do anything it takes to protect their Burger Messiah, be it overriding the will of the people or even the law itself. VIDEO OF THE DAY: Georgia prosecutor and judge both call Trump ally’s bluff
Trump lawyer Ken Chesebro mozzareally thought he had pulled one over on the prosecution — but they had a cheddar idea, leaving him stuck between a roquefort and a hard place. Apologies, that was cheesy. :)

The Maui wildfires are just the beginning
Environmental Defense Fund: As wildfires ravage Hawai'i, over 5,000 heat records have been broken in just the past MONTH. It's painfully clear the climate crisis is here, and we need strong, decisive action to respond to it ASAP. Will you chip in to the Environmental Defense Fund and support their efforts to pass responsible climate policy?
"Rich Men North of Richmond" singer Oliver Anthony tears into GOP for using his song at the debate
The very first "question" — if you could call it that — at the clown show that was the recent GOP primary debate somehow was a clip from the hit song "Rich Men North of Richmond." However, the singer took issue with being appropriated as a right-wing icon and had a devastating response to the GOP hopefuls: "I wrote that song about them!" It truly speaks to a stunning lack of self-awareness that a room full of Republican governors and politicians could listen to a song about rich men making life hard for people and think "this is probably about someone else." Texas judge blocks state ban on gender-affirming care for minors
In a huge win for human rights in Texas, a state judge has blocked a GOP state law banning gender-affirming care for minors while she hears a legal challenge to it — because she finds it likely the law is unconstitutional. The judge correctly pointed out that this law flies in the face of a parent's right to make choices for their children.

CPAC vice-chair resigns amid corruption and disarray
The vice chair of the Conservative Political Action Committee, which seems to hold one of the hate rallies they pass off as a "conference" every other week, has resigned while calling for investigations into the group’s top leader and its financial practices. He is the latest in high-profile departures from the embattled organization, whose leader Matt Schlapp is currently fighting off serious sexual battery allegations. Grift, corruption, and sexual predation — just about par for the course for the self-appointed arbiters of Christian morality.
Insurers gave Ron DeSantis millions of dollars — and he made it harder to sue them in exchange
Ron DeSantis has made it easier for insurance agencies to screw over their customers and freely violate the once sacred contract of payment for goods and services. On top of that, he shortened the window in which customers have to file claims and poured a billion taxpayer dollars into a fund to help INSURANCE COMPANIES mitigate their losses while their customers are left out in the cold. Cartoonishly evil behavior once again from Florida's real-life Disney villain.

Republican candidates screw THEMSELVES ahead of first debate
No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen: Unbelievable...

Yale and New Haven leaders say flyers sent to students by police union are "appalling" and "selfish"
The police union of New Haven, CT, decided to show just how seriously they take their ostensible duty to "protect and serve" by sending a flyer to Yale freshmen emblazoned with a grim reaper, warning them that the streets aren't safe and to stay on campus, taunting the students by wishing them "Good luck" — the implication, of course, being that the police cannot be relied upon to enforce the law and keep students safe. They sure humiliated whoever's job it is to keep the streets safe!
Spain women’s football team refuses to play until Luis Rubiales resigns
Spanish soccer President Luis Rubiales has now refused to resign for nonconsensually kissing one of his players on the lips following their win at the Women's World Cup. The predatory misogynist said he would resign but then changed his mind, declaring himself the victim of "social assassination" by "false feminists," leading to the team boycotting the sport entirely until he's gone. Social assassination, of course, is just a fancy term for being "held accountable for serial predation."

Rite Aid reportedly preparing for bankruptcy amid opioid lawsuits, $3 billion in debt
Womp, womp. Maybe they shouldn't have killed thousands of people by pumping dangerously addictive painkillers into poor communities for massive profits.
