I was initially hesitant to write this because I didn't want to give potentially bad advice. But the more I learn about the tragedy on Maui, the more important I think this ONE TAKEAWAY is.

Authorities blocked escape routes in Lahaina, and those who dodged the barricades lived. You can't just blindly obey in an emergency because the only person you can really trust to have the whole-hearted best interests of your family in an emergency is you.
