On Wednesday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan announced that Justice Natalie Hudson will be making history as the first Black woman appointed to serve as chief justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court. They also announced the appointment of Karl Procaccini to serve as associate justice.?
?Justice Hudson is one of our state?s most experienced jurists. She has a strong reputation as a leader and consensus builder,? said Governor Walz. ?I know that she will use her decades of judicial experience and deep understanding of our justice system to lead the Judicial Branch with a steady hand and strong conviction. I am confident that she will advance a vision that promotes fairness and upholds the dignity of all Minnesotans.?
?Justice Hudson?s historic appointment is another important first in our state?s history that will continue the work of opening doors and moving towards justice for all Minnesotans,? said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. ?She is a distinguished and principled leader who has dedicated her career to serving the people of Minnesota and has never wavered in that commitment.?
On Thursday, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan joined Minnesotans from across the state for the opening of the Minnesota State Fair.?
"In many ways, the fair reflects the best of Minnesota: The importance of agriculture to our success as a state, our vibrant food and entertainment culture, our sense of neighborliness.?Excited to get back out here tomorrow," said Governor Walz.
"Happy first day of the Minnesota State Fair to all who celebrate! It?s so good to be back," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.
On Monday, Governor Walz and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers announced their departments of transportation will seek over $1 billion in federal funding to rebuild the John A. Blatnik Bridge between Duluth, Minnesota, and Superior, Wisconsin.
?The Blatnik Bridge connects the Twin Ports communities and economies of Duluth and Superior ? it provides a vital route for regional commerce, tourism, and emergency services,? said Governor Walz. ?I?m proud to partner with Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and our colleagues at the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to rebuild and modernize this critical piece of infrastructure as quickly as possible.?
?In partnership with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, our departments of transportation are ready to take advantage of this federal funding to make critical investments in the Blatnik Bridge,? said Governor Evers.?
On Tuesday, Governor Walz joined bipartisan federal and state legislators and community leaders to break ground on the the final stretch of the Highway 610 completion project in Maple Grove.
"It was great to break ground on the final stretch of Highway 610 in Maple Grove ? a project that will lead to over 500 new, high-growth jobs while supporting over 10,000 existing jobs. This is what making Minnesota the best state to live and work looks like in action," said Governor Walz.?
On Saturday, Lieutenant Governor Flanagan joined LIUNA Minnesota to celebrate passing the largest infrastructure bill in state history.
"Minnesota is a state that leans into its values. We're making sure our roads and bridges are safer ? all while creating good-paying jobs to keep our working families strong," said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan.?
Also on Tuesday, Governor Walz accepted the Gun Sense Lawmaker of the Year Award from Everytown.?
"As a longtime gun owner, I know strengthened background checks and red flag laws have proven to reduce gun violence ? and don't infringe on my rights. I?m proud to have signed these measures into law," said Governor Walz.?
