Friend,

A few weeks ago, we received a report that sent a shudder through the entire Common Dreams office.

The study, conducted by the philanthropic research organization Giving USA, found that the total amount of money donated to nonprofit organizations last year dropped by more than 13%.

That’s the sharpest decline ever recorded in the 60 years that Giving USA has conducted this survey—and a 13% drop in donations to Common Dreams would be absolutely crippling.

We certainly understand why people are cutting back on donations. Big corporations have used inflation as an excuse to jack up prices on pretty much everything, making it more challenging than ever to make ends meet. But this is like nothing we’ve ever seen. Even during the Great Recession, it wasn’t this bad.

The good news is that if everyone who got this email donated just a couple of dollars, we’d hit our fundraising goal for this entire campaign. And if everyone who read an article on Common Dreams chipped in a dollar or two, we’d be all set for the rest of the year.

That’s why we’re asking you today: Will you chip in to help bridge the gap right now and help Common Dreams survive in this difficult moment? We can do it if we all do our part.
With solidarity and gratitude,

The Common Dreams team
