Since the far-right Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and stripped millions of people of their right to safe, legal, and accessible abortion care, some states moved to ban abortion while many states voted to reaffirm, restore, or permanently inscribe abortion rights into state laws.

It hasn’t just been bright blue states like California and Vermont, it has included purple states like Michigan and Minnesota and red states like Kansas. Earlier this month, Ohio voters stopped an attempt by the Republican legislature to preemptively defeat an upcoming abortion rights vote.

Republicans have misjudged how important abortion rights are to everyone, and now they are paying the price at the ballot box.

We've got to make sure Democrats are paying attention. Democratic candidates in purple and red states must embrace and champion abortion rights -- not run away from it. The people are on our side! We need Democrats to champion platforms that support bodily autonomy, and vigorously advocate to expand abortion access.

Within minutes of the far-right extremist Supreme Court decision overturning Roe, the state of Missouri became the first state to outlaw abortion outright. More states followed, and Republicans have since tried to lay the groundwork for a national abortion ban.

These are attacks on our bodily autonomy, as well as class warfare and white supremacy at work. Black women, LGBTQ+ people, low-income communities, and others who are already marginalized have been disproportionately harmed.

As someone who has received abortion care, Cori will keep doing all she can to protect people’s bodily autonomy and reproductive rights.

That’s why she's introduced many policies to expand abortion access, including the Protecting Access to Medication Abortion Act, which would ensure that people seeking abortion care can always access medication abortion through telehealth and certified pharmacies, including mail-order pharmacies.

It’s also why she co-introduced the Abortion Justice Act, which protects patients and providers from criminalization and calls for necessary federal investments in abortion care, including training, research, outreach, doula care, and innovation.

Cori understands how important this work is and she will never stop pushing to protect, restore, and expand our reproductive rights.
