Convention of States (COS) is celebrating its 10th anniversary and I want to take a moment to share how COS Action emerged to create real change.
A decade ago, when we first stepped onto the field as Convention of States, a Project of Citizens for Self-Governance, many had yet to grasp the concept of COS and Article V.
Our initial challenge was to raise awareness and educate fellow Americans about the potential of Article V and its power to restore our self-governance.
It didn't take long for us to realize that education was just the beginning.
The next step was clear: we needed not only to recruit and train activists but to empower them to directly engage with state legislators. Grassroots lobbying became crucial, and face-to-face interactions with legislators and their Pro-COS constituents were essential for building relationships that would propel our mission forward.
We imagined a grassroots army covering every state legislative district, strategically recruited, trained, and deployed.
But in order to do that successfully, we needed a legislative strategy team tracking EVERY key detail of state legislatures' workings. That’s right, we track every state legislature's start date, end date, filing and crossover deadlines, committee hearing assignments and leadership.
No other organization in America has ever organized a grassroots army and strategy like this before or since COS Action.
This unique synergy empowers COS like nothing else. When we file a resolution, we know the committee it'll likely be assigned to and its members, along with their constituents that are COS activists ready to be mobilized. This is how we deploy our trained army strategically to put pressure on their own legislators to advance the COS Resolution.
From coast to coast, this dynamic strategy has led to unparalleled success. We've filed COS resolutions in 49 states, passed them out of committees in 31 states, succeeded in floor votes in 26 states, and fully passed resolutions in 19 states.
Today, we proudly stand as America's largest conservative grassroots army, dedicated to securing the Convention of States Resolution’s passage in the 34 states required for an Article V Convention!
