DHS has failed the American people   Irving, TX - I hope you all had a great week and are surviving the heat! I recently hosted a roundtable with members of the International Franchise Association to discuss federal regulatory overreach, workforce issues, and the franchise sector as a whole. As Co-Chairman of the Congressional Franchise Caucus and as a member of the House Committee on Small Business, I'm working to protect the American Dream for the next generation of entrepreneurs. I also had the chance to tour Cook Children's Medical Center. They participated in our recent North Texas Job Fair and it was great to see them again to discuss my work to improve our health care system! As you may know, I recently helped secure funding for a new power plant at DFW airport and was honored to help break ground on the new plant. This will help ensure that DFW has a reliable back up system to keep the lights on, air traffic managed, and on days like this, the air conditioning running. I went to Fort Worth and toured Alcon Vision, a contact lens & ophthalmological surgical equipment manufacturer with a huge footprint in Texas. We had a great discussion about policies that will promote innovation & improve patient access to care. Later, I went to Southlake to tour Envision Radiology and hear more about their experience navigating the burdensome regulations facing our health care providers. I appreciated the chance to discuss solutions that will help their employees focus on their #1 priority: caring for their patients. At the 2023 North Texas Job Fair we had more than 16,000 people and 375 employers attend! Thank you to everyone who joined us, I enjoyed meeting so many job creators and seekers from North Texas. Jobseekers, we’d love your feedback! Have you ever wanted to serve your community in a Congressional office? Applications for our fall internship program are now OPEN! We’re looking for hard-working interns to join us in our Washington, D.C. and Addison, TX offices. Please visit my website to learn more and to apply. Congressional Youth Advisory Council REMINDER: The deadline to apply for our 2023-2024 Congressional Youth Advisory Council is September 22nd! This is a unique leadership opportunity for students interested in the federal government and public policy. It’s always one of my favorite programs, it’s impressive to see how much our students learn and grow throughout the year! To learn more or apply, please click here. Texas-24 Work of the Week Small businesses drive the U.S. economy making up 99.9% of all businesses, creating two-thirds of all jobs, and accounting for nearly half of all economic activity annually. This week, I helped lead an oversight effort pushing back on the Department of Energy’s absurd proposal to change ceiling fan standards, potentially putting 30% of small business ceiling manufacturers out of business. TX-24 Veteran Commendation The Congressional Veteran Commendation has been created to honor the distinguished veterans around the country and in TX24 and to preserve their stories for future generations of Americans. Veterans who are nominated must live in the 24th District of Texas (you can check here) and have served our nation with honor consistent with the finest traditions of military service. The nominated veterans must also have served their community as a civilian. Click here to complete and submit the nomination packet no later than October 13, 2023 at 5pm. Texas-24 Hometown Hero At 6 years old, Grapevine resident Paisley Elliott founded Paisley's Pals, a non-profit organization that offers support and education to refugees. Her most recent fundraising event included painting kindness rocks for every Grapevine-Colleyville ISD teacher. Thank you, Paisley, for all the work you do to educate and inspire not only your peers, but North Texans of all ages! Do you know someone who goes above and beyond for our community? Nominate a Texas-24 Hometown Hero here. Rep. Van Duyne in the News Read Rep. Van Duyne's Comments in the Dallas Morning News Rep.
