Building Bridges, Celebrating Meals on Wheels and Honoring Our Veterans

Dear John,

Earlier this year, I announced a $19 million RAISE grant that I helped to secure to fund the design, right-of-way and new construction for the replacement of the Dale J. Kridlo and the Firefighters Memorial Bridges in Luzerne County.

This week, I was glad to be in West Pittston to kickstart these major bridge projects with U.S. Senator Bob Casey, PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll, Luzerne County Manager Romilda Crocamo and members of local government.

Replacing these important bridges connecting Pittston and West Pittston will not only address safety concerns, but also ease existing traffic congestion and alleviate residents’ long-standing frustrations.

These major bridge projects, which both include important elements to ensure safety and accessibility for road users, cyclists and pedestrians, will transform our community, creating efficient and safe travel corridors where they’re most needed.

In the 118th Congress, I am more committed than ever to bringing federal funding home to drive regional economic growth, create jobs, fight crime, and provide much-needed public works projects.

Once the the replacement of the Dale J. Kridlo and the Firefighters Memorial Bridges are complete our community and travel corridors will be safer and more efficient for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Meals on Wheels Day

I had a great time at the Monroe County Meals on Wheels Day 2023 Kickoff at the Eagles Rest Cellars in Stroudsburg last week.

Since 1972, Monroe County Meals on Wheels has continued to help ensure homebound individuals can stay safe and remain independent in their homes while providing important nutritional support, a daily human connection and a variety of other supportive services.

Over half of a century later, this organization continues to spread joy, hope and improve the quality of life for homebound individuals, their families and their furry friends in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Monroe County Meals on Wheels for the important work that you all do.

Announcing the 2023

Congressional App Challenge

The 2023 Congressional App Challenge has launched.

Established by the House of Representatives in 2014, this competition encourages middle and high school students from around the nation to create and submit their own application for the opportunity to receive national recognition.

Students may participate as individuals or in teams of up to four to create an application, or "app," for web, mobile or another platform of choice.

The Congressional App Challenge's mission is to inspire, include and innovate efforts around STEM, coding and computer science education.

The first-place team will be invited to Washington D.C. for a winner's reception, and their application will be recognized on the Congressional App Challenge's website for an entire year!

As Ranking Member of the Commerce, Justice and Science Subcommittee, I understand the importance of inspiring younger generations to explore STEM, coding and computer science through hands-on practice.

I am very excited to see what our talented students in NEPA create this year.

Serving Veterans

With a Smile

We at the Cartwright office are passionate about, and take great pride, in serving the Veterans of Northeast Pennsylvania.

Earlier this year, Ron and Rose Bzdil contacted my office seeking assistance in obtaining Sergeant Bzdil's service medals that he earned while on Active Duty in the United States Air Force.

With the help of our Veterans Liaison Tyler McAlpine, Ron received his National Defense Service Medal and Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
