Friend, I wanted to make sure you saw this news:

After being charged with numerous crimes related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election, Donald Trump just turned himself over to authorities in Fulton County, Georgia. This comes on the heels of alleged co-conspirators like Rudy Giuliani, Mark Meadows, and John Eastman surrendering themselves as well.

Now that the former President has been arraigned, we’re one step closer to the start of his criminal trial – a trial that should not, under any circumstances, play out behind closed doors. The American people deserve to see what will likely be the most important trial in our country’s history.

Yet unless action is taken by Chief Justice Roberts, cameras will not be allowed in the courtroom for Trump’s federal trials. There’s still time to change that, which is why I’m asking you to join me in demanding transparency today: Please, add your voice with mine right away if you agree that Donald Trump’s trials should be televised for the American public to see with our own eyes.

Friend,

Donald J. Trump – who once wielded the power of the American presidency and is now seeking to retake the office – has now been criminally indicted four times over for a myriad of alleged crimes.

Having served as both a former U.S. Attorney and a state Attorney General for over 20 years, I believe that the evidence to consider criminal charges against the former President for his conduct after the 2020 election is strong. Now the idea of criminal accountability for Trump is no longer in the realm of the possible - the charges are here.

To be clear: Like any defendant in our system of justice, Trump must be presumed innocent until proven guilty. He deserves to have his day in court, and we must continue to let the legal process play out.

But there is a real risk that the federal trial against the former President will take place behind closed doors – out of direct sight of the public. That would be a grave mistake.

The federal trial over Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election stands to be perhaps the most important trial in the history of American democracy. Yet, absent action from Chief Justice Roberts, no cameras will be allowed in the courtroom.

As Americans, we deserve to see this historic trial with our own eyes – not merely filtered through the lens of political pundits and the media, or Trump’s own social media distortion machine. That’s why I’m hoping you’ll join me in demanding transparency. If you believe Trump’s trials should be televised, will you please click here to add your voice right away?

In this country, no one – not even a former President – is above the law. With the stakes for our democracy so high, and as Trump continues to ask voters for their support in his 2024 campaign for President, nothing less than full transparency with regards to his criminal trial can be accepted. The American people can be trusted with the facts. We are capable of evaluating them for ourselves. We do not need to be spoon-fed filtered sound bites by interpreters. We must demand to know.

Thank you for raising your voice at this critical time for our nation.

Sincerely,
Dick
