John,
By now, you’ve surely seen the mugshot of disgraced former President Donald Trump.
He was arrested in Georgia by District Attorney Fani Willis, relating to his conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 election and install himself as a dictator. He is plainly disqualified from the presidency―yet he stands a good chance of winning the Republican nomination in 2024.
Even if he hadn’t sought to end American Democracy once and for all, Donald Trump should be unelectable. Let’s look at his record on the third rail of politics: Social Security and Medicare.
Donald Trump promised not to cut Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid when he was running for President in 2016. But as soon as he took office, he changed his tune.
Donald Trump:
-
Spent his first year in office trying to destroy Medicare and Medicaid, and kick millions off their health insurance.1
-
Proposed billion-dollar cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in all four budgets his administration released.2
-
Unilaterally eliminated Social Security and Medicare’s dedicated funding, without a plan to replace it.3
-
Began a pilot project that allows private health insurers to take over traditional Medicare plans without seniors’ knowledge or consent, leading to delays and denials that make seniors sicker longer.4
-
Suggested Social Security cuts would come in his second term.5
Older voters swung away from Trump in the 2020 election6 after his mask came off and it was clear that he favored typical Republican economic policies of tax cuts for the ultra-rich and slashing benefits. We won’t let the American people forget.
Remind voters that Trump’s arrest isn’t the only reason he should be unelectable. Donate $7 to Social Security Works today!
