Flash forward to today, when as part of my job I talk to high school and college students several times a year, and I’m always blown away to hear they’re “into” urban planning. Being into this stuff is…normal now? I talked to one student this summer who says “maybe 70%” of his high school is into urban planning.
What changed? One thing most of these kids have in common is they read GGWash. Every day for 15 years we’ve written something about urbanism and what’s going on in this place, bit by bit making the case for the world we want to see – shaping it – and celebrating it. That small community that began with a group of volunteer writers in 2008 has grown into a movement. An entire generation of young people grew up with us and now they’re joining the fight, advocating for free bus service or equitable schools, or starting careers in the planning field, including as our interns!
Are you “that kid”? We hope you’ll consider applying for an internship with GGWash in the future!
If, like me, you were “that kid” once upon a time and want to pay it forward, I hope you’ll consider contributing to GGWash monthly. Our goal is to welcome 65 new recurring donors by the end of August. Will you be one of them? |
