I want to quickly touch base with you about the recent victory for democracy in Ohio.

Earlier this month, Ohioans voted against Issue 1, a misleading amendment intended to prevent a widely-supported abortion rights amendment from appearing on ballots next November.

As ACLU Ohio put it:

“The purpose of Issue 1 is to silence the majority of Ohioans, and subject us to the policy preferences of a small group of extremists who have secured the favor of our unconstitutionally gerrymandered legislature.”

Shadowy right-wing interest groups are wholeheartedly convinced that with boatloads of cash and a healthy dose of disinformation, we won’t notice that our most sacred rights and freedoms have – POOF! – disappeared.

Ohio’s firm rejection of Issue 1 proves otherwise.

Americans are ready to fight for democracy.

We’re ready to show up when it counts.

And we’re ready to hold to account those who seek to roll back our rights.

Republicans in Richmond are gleefully attacking voting rights, abortion rights, education, privacy, and more. I’m counting on you to pitch in $25, $30, or more to elect Democrats and defend Virginia’s democracy this November.
