John – 147 years ago today, Save the Children’s founder, Eglantyne Jebb, was born in England.
The world Eglantyne was born into looked a lot different than the one we know today.
In 1876, it was rare for a woman to attend university, and being in a same-sex relationship wasn't widely accepted. Eglantyne did both anyway.
The idea that children had rights was considered radical. Eglantyne got world leaders to recognize them with her Declaration of the Rights of the Child.
There had never been an organization dedicated solely to meeting children’s needs. So Eglantyne founded Save the Children.
Eglantyne changed and improved our world. On her birthday today, we invite you to honor this influential woman. Check out our Eglantyne Jebb birthday slideshow now to learn more about her incredible life.
