Caught on tape, the ugliest truth came out.

Folks,

This week, Massachusetts governor Maura Healey (a Democrat) attended a posh wine party fundraiser in Nantucket – where the average home goes for $5,000,000.

Their party was disrupted by activists from Climate Defiance, who assembled to pressure the governor to stop greenlighting new fossil fuel projects. The governor refused, and the wealthy guests got nasty.

Robin Wiessmann, the CEO of a Pennsylvania real estate finance house, screamed “GET OUT” in the face of a young man not much older than my son. A fossil fuel lobbyist sneered that “I’ve been a climate activist longer than you’ve been alive” and “You don’t know how things get done.”

But the prince of the party was Boston luxury real estate developer Bruce Percelay, who matter-of-factly told this young woman to her face that she was rude and stupid, finishing it off with: “I don’t mind if you die.”

An animated gif of mutimillionaire Bruce Percelay quoted telling a young climate activist who is worried about dying from global warming, “I don’t mind if you die.”

Global warming is now such an irrefutable, undeniable fact, the corporate and political elites can’t even bother hiding their contempt for any of us who are trying to stop it.

Now more than ever we need fully independent, unbought voices serving in the highest halls of power. Will you pitch in $25, $50, $100 or more to help me win in WA-02 next year?

Democratic mega-donors and the politicians in their pocket are not the only ones ratcheting up their open contempt for climate action.

This week in Milwaukee, Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy aggressively denounced climate policy as a “hoax” – an old complaint from the far-right that is suddenly gaining new popularity among right-wing commentators and representatives, even as wildfires and triple-digit temperatures consume the continent.

A collage of two screenshots. On the left, a map produced by USA Today showing wildfires and smoke covering the entire North American continent and Hawaii. On the right, a map of extreme triple-digit temperatures across the southern United States with a headline from ABC News that reads: “Extreme heat affecting 34d of US residents Sunday, forecasts show.”

This is a lot of bad news, but weirdly? I’m actually encouraged.

I’m encouraged by young activists willing to risk arrest and force the people burning our planet to confront the consequences of their actions – and expose their corruption for the rest of us to see.

And I was encouraged that Ramaswamy’s “hoax” claim was immediately drowned out by loud boos.

Even many Republican voters know that what we are experiencing right now is not normal, and it is not sustainable.

Survival is the strongest human instinct. We are witnessing a coalition of voters forming who know that global warming is a threat to human existence and they expect their elected leaders to do something about it.

Bruce Percelay “doesn’t mind if you die,” but I do. I’m running for Congress to stand up the corrupt, corporate duopoly and fight for our collective survival.

We have the perfect opportunity to make history with this seat next year and elect the first ever member of the Green Party to Congress to really shake things up.

WA-02 is a deeply progressive district that has ZERO chance of falling into Republican hands. The ONLY two people who have any chance of winning this seat are the Democratic incumbent – a former lobbyist deep in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry – or me, a former teacher, union leader, and lifelong climate activist.

Washington’s Top Two primary system means the top-two vote getters head to the general election. In the last two cycles we came within 2.4% of the vote each time.

Next year, I know we can take the primary, win in November, and head to Congress to lead a defiant charge against the climate emergency.

In solidarity,

Jason
