Why we are 350: Scientists overwhelmingly agree that 350ppm CO2 is the upper limit to sustain life as humans have lived it. For 800,000+ years atmospheric CO2 varied between roughly 180 to 280ppm (graphic).

Join us at the march to end fossil
fuels on September 17th in NYC

The United Nations is calling on world leaders to take real steps to lead us
off fossil fuels to protect people and the planet. On September 20th in New York, the UN Climate Ambition Summit will gather world leaders to commit to phasing out fossil fuels.

Thousands of us will take to the streets before the summit to demand President Biden take bold action to end fossil fuels.

350 Chicago is coordinating an effort to lease a bus for an overnight trip to New York City for the
Sept. 17th March to End Fossil Fuels

Here is an interest form. If around 20+ people show interest in traveling by bus on the 16th and arriving on the 17th, marching, then getting back on the bus for a return trip on the 17th, we will coordinate with the organizers to book the bus. We will ask for a minimal price for people to secure a spot to attend.

If interested, please fill out the interest form.  Once we reach a minimum level of interest, we will provide a link to purchase your ticket and further details about the trip including departure location, time of departure and itinerary.
Climate Week NYC
September 17 - 24

Climate Week NYC is the largest annual climate event of its kind, bringing together some 400 events and activities across the City of New York – in person, hybrid and online. Each year, business leaders, political change makers, local decision takers and civil society representatives of all ages and backgrounds, from all over the world, gather to drive the transition, speed up progress, and champion change that is already happening.

Climate Week NYC is hosted by Climate Group, an international non-profit whose purpose is to drive climate action, fast. Climate Group hosts the official program during the week that brings together the most senior international figures from business, government, civil society and the climate sector.

This year Climate Week NYC will be held from September 17-24, 2023. The event takes place every year in partnership with the United Nations General Assembly and is run in coordination with the United Nations and the City of New York.

ACE Line 5 DNR Petition Signing and Protest

Nearly 200 people at the Madison Farmer's market signed the petition. ACE members are planning to present the petition to the DNR on September 15 and they are aiming for 500+ signatures.

You still have time to sign.  YOU can do it online and help ACE hit their number!   It only takes a minute!

Line 5 carries a particularly nasty mixture of tar sands oil and additives  - they literally boil strip-mined tar stuck in sand to separate the sand, then add thinners to the gooey hot tar so it will flow.

That's what's flowing through, and leaking from, Line 5 pipes at the Mississippi headwaters, Lake Superior tributaries, and Straights of Mackinac!

Report on Madison from 350MKE member Chelsea

"Saturday, August 19th, 2023 saw beautiful sunny weather in Madison in time for a farmer’s market rally organized by Action on Climate Emergency (ACE).

It was so cool to see youths and elders across the state teaming up to gain attention
and public participation to sign a petition urging Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to shut down Enbridge’s Line 5, an intrusive tar sands oil pipeline that has been trespassing on Bad River Reservation since their 1977 treaty agreement expired in 2013.

The pipeline has spilled 33 times losing 1.1 million gallons in 55 years since 1968. Michigan pipeline safety and advisory board agrees that there should be no oil transported where the pipeline will still stay after the proposed “reroute” off the reservation, and if it should spill it could cost $6.3 billion and priceless damage to ecosystems."

Read Chelsea's full report here.  There's also news coverage.

Sign the ACE DNR Petition!

Read more at:  THE PROBLEM WITH THE LINE 5 OIL PIPELINE

The WI DNR will determine whether or not to approve the permits for the pipeline to continue to pump oil through our state.

Let's end our dependence on fossil fuels,
end climate change,
and save our land and water.

Chase & Wells Fargo Banks

Many banks (including Chase and Wells Fargo) are lending their depositor's money to fossil fuel companies to develop new fossil fuel production.

We want more people to be aware of this and hopefully change their bank or talk to the bank management!

We get honks and thumbs up from drivers and passersby.  Some people stop and have a chat about what the banks are doing, or ask, "What is fossil fuel?"

We're alternating between two Chase Bank locations.
