Friend,
It’s almost cliche to think of Congress as a dysfunctional organization incapable of doing anything worthwhile because of constant political maneuvering and partisan bickering. And to be fair, that does accurately describe the U.S. House for the past eight months because of the leverage that extremists have over Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
But last year, Congress was the most productive it’s been in decades. Conservative and progressive publications alike recognized just how much Congress accomplished by passing legislation to invest in infrastructure, bring jobs back to the U.S., and reduce prescription drug costs:
“Congress was historically productive.”
Washington Examiner | August 11, 2022
“We just had the most productive Congress since the Eisenhower Era.”
The Hill | September 12, 2022
“Congress proved to be productive as Democrats navigated with slim majority.”
The Washington Post | September 30, 2022
Last Congress, lawmakers passed transformational legislation. Some of the highlights were:
- The CHIPS & Science Act to bring semiconductor manufacturing jobs back to the United States;
- The Inflation Reduction Act to lower prescription drug costs and make historic investments in combating climate change; and
- The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (our favorite) to invest in building up the nation’s ports and shipping infrastructure, airports, highways, electric vehicle charging stations, power grids, and rural broadband access.
Last year, we helped elect Mary Peltola to the U.S. House, and she advanced thoughtful bills after her September swearing in. Now, it’s voices like hers that are helping to mitigate the damage extremists can do in Washington.
We’re proud that Alaska is leading the way in rejecting extremism — and that we at Build Alaska’s Future Action Fund have been working to support common-sense leaders who have enacted common-sense laws.
But we have more work to do to push back against the extremism in the House this Congress, and we need all hands on deck as we rally to protect good governance so we can get back to making meaningful progress. Will you chip in a contribution to fuel our movement and push back against extremism?
We’re grateful for your support, friend, and we’re looking forward to everything we can accomplish together.
