In a huge victory for life, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last week in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration that the FDA must restore critical safeguards for chemical abortion drugs. The decision is a response to President Biden’s efforts to remove important safety requirements and approval processes to give any women unlimited access to these chemical abortion drugs that have at times caused the death of many women. The 5th Circuit ruling states that mail order abortions are illegal under current federal law. This ruling is an important decision considering that abortionists increased their push for mail order abortions after Roe v. Wade was overturned and abortion became illegal in many states like Texas.
Sadly, chemical abortions are often more dangerous than surgical abortions, especially when sent through the mail. Thankfully, Texas passed a law, SB 4 in 2021, that outlaws mail order abortions in the state of Texas and required important safety requirements to protect women from harm. Governor Greg Abbott signed SB 4 at our 2021 Policy Forum pictured above with the Texas Values Policy Team and others who were involved. |
