Last night, Republican presidential candidates held their first debate of the 2024 election cycle. It’s hard to pinpoint the worst thing that happened in last night's debate. We’ll spare you from having to watch the clips.
- Almost every Republican on stage raised their hand and said that if Trump was convicted in a court of law, they would still support his presidency.
- Candidates described themselves as “unapologetically pro-life,” and DeSantis confirmed that as President he would “stand on the side of life” if a 6-week federal abortion ban passes like it has in Florida.
- They called for the elimination of the U.S. Department of Education, slammed teacher’s unions, and advocated for the banning of any mention of gender identity or sexuality in the classroom.
- Vivek Ramaswamy, who has surged in recent polls, proudly called climate change a hoax.
This is not normal. This is dangerous. It is beyond the pale. And our children are watching.
After last night, one thing is crystal clear: we absolutely cannot let any of the Republicans on that debate stage get elected. It’s not just enough for us to keep Donald Trump out of the White House— we have to keep every single extremist out of office, and put a stop to their dangerous agenda.
The truth is, these Republican presidential candidates are only part of the equation here. The only way we can truly defeat the right-wing, extremist agenda is to support candidates across the country who are on our side who are ready to fight like hell to keep our kids safe, healthy, and protected from hate.
We have Democratic moms running to flip critical sets from red to blue that will give us key votes in Congress and in state legislatures. After last night, we’re even more determined to use what we saw on that debate stage as fuel to ensure our mamas win.
