Last night was something I have only ever dreamed about before.
|
Growing up sharing a house with my mom, older brother and grandparents, I could have never imagined standing on a presidential debate stage someday.
I wondered if the American dream was real for a kid like me. I can stand before you today, and say the dream is alive, it is well, and it is healthy.
I have the good fortune to have a mom who worked 16-hour days, making sure we had food on our tables. She taught me that if you're able-bodied in America, you work.
If you take out a loan, you pay it back.
If you commit a violent crime, you go to jail.
And if God made you a man, you play sports against men.
When I got to Milwaukee this week, I wanted to have a conversation, an adult conversation, about why America can do for anyone what she's done for me.
We need to focus on restoring hope, creating opportunities, and protecting America.
We didn't spend enough time talking about the challenges we have at our southern border. We didn't talk long enough about the challenges that we have with China. It's not the strength of China, it's the weakness of Biden, that's the problem that we face as a nation.
We need to dig into some of the most important, consequential issues facing the American people, and not have a food fight on the stage.
I look forward to being on the debate stage again next month, and to continuing my conversations with people in states like Iowa, New Hampshire and my home state of South Carolina.
I know you haven’t given to my campaign yet, would you consider doing so today? My grassroots operations rely on support from donors just like you. We need to keep up the momentum coming off this first debate and push hard into the next one.
I hope you can help.
God Bless y’all!
