D.C. Statehood is long overdue.

Washington, D.C.'s population is majority Black and brown – which is why it's no surprise that white supremacists are constantly targeting the region.

In the latest attack on D.C., a Republican House member from Tennessee introduced a bill to repeal D.C.'s home-rule-act – which would essentially wipe out the slightest bit of autonomy that D.C. residents currently have through branches of local government, like the D.C. council and mayor's office.

The attempts of a Tennessee legislator to persuade Congress that D.C. isn't worthy of autonomy is not just anti-democratic, but it's a deliberate attack on a majority Black and brown region – an attack fueled by white supremacy.

John – it's long overdue that D.C. becomes a state. Sign our petition to demand President Biden prioritize D.C. statehood before the end of 2023.

Did you know that D.C. has the worst racial unemployment gap in the entire nation? It's true. But since D.C. isn't a state and the majority of people struggling are Black, attention and resources to addressing solutions aren't a priority.

From taxation without representation to a lack of proper representation and limited powers in Congress, D.C. residents have been forced to live in an unjust and anti-democratic society.

It is anti-democratic for a legislator who is not even from DC.C. to dictate how the D.C. government should work. But the fact that Congress and President Biden have allowed this injustice to continue for so long is even more troubling.

One of President Biden's campaign promises was to help shrink the racial wealth gap – he can initiate this process by prioritizing D.C. statehood before the end of 2023. Sign on and let him know that he needs to act fast >>
