I need to be honest with you, Jack: I am worried that we are going to miss our fundraising goal for the month of August.

We originally set a goal to raise $550,000 for the entire month. However, after looking over our budget, we raised our goal by $75,000 for a total of $625,000.

With just 7 days left to hit this goal, we need to raise another $113,265. That's an average of $16,181 a day.

Here's why I am so worried: We have raised, on average, $10,357 a day during August. At this pace, we will not hit our goal—for the first time this year.

So far, 2023 has been one of Daily Kos' hardest years. We knew that going into the year that we would be operating at a loss for the first few months, that our expenses would be more than our revenue. Unfortunately, our actual revenue lagged behind our projections, digging an even deeper financial hole.

We were forced to make deep financial cuts and make other changes in hopes of improving our revenue. Finally, after financially struggling for most of the year, we are starting to see the impacts of those changes.

Thankfully, grassroots donations from the Daily Kos community fueled our work during this time. However, we are not out of the woods yet and we can't allow this momentum to slide now.
