John, I was sickened to hear the latest news out of the Tennessee Capitol. While the state legislature discussed a series of gun safety measures, families who were close to the deadly Nashville school shooting – in which three children and three adults were murdered – arrived to testify in favor. That is, until GOP lawmakers ordered State Troopers to remove them from the chamber.

We see this happen time and time again. Republican politicians try to silence the voices of folks who have been personally impacted by the devastation of gun violence. They know that victims and their families have powerful stories to share, which threatens the pro-gun narratives pushed by the NRA and their GOP allies.

But here’s the thing, John. These Tennessee families who were impacted by the Nashville shooting won’t stop sharing their stories, and neither will I. I’m fighting every day in Congress to make sure our voices are heard – can you donate to support my efforts? [[link removed]]

The GOP-controlled Tennessee legislature is in the midst of shutting down legislation that would keep firearms away from dangerous people, while also fighting for legislation that would put more guns in the hands of teachers.

Folks who have had a loved one injured or killed by gun violence – folks like these Tennessee families and myself – know better than anyone that we need fewer firearms on the streets, not more. Republican lawmakers are so afraid of the power of our messaging that they want to shut it down altogether – even when it’s just someone holding a homemade sign in a public hearing room.

When I first ran for Congress in 2018, I faced relentless attacks from far-right Republicans over my clear platform of reforming our gun laws. They tried to kick me out of Congress through redistricting, but I’m not going anywhere.

If you believe that victims of gun violence and their families should have a voice in Congress, donate to my campaign ahead of our August end-of-month deadline so I can keep doing this work in the years ahead. [[link removed]]
