John, last night’s GOP Presidential Debate was a nightmare—and that was without the twice-impeached, serially indicted frontrunner, Donald Trump, on stage.

The discussion was a race to the bottom, as candidates took extreme positions on issue after issue that would hurt women, seniors, working people, and our planet.

My eyes nearly popped out of my head when the conversation turned to abortion.

The candidates fought with each other over who could sign the most restrictive national abortion ban into law. Democrats have been calling out their dangerous agenda for the past year; at least now, Republicans aren’t trying to hide it.

Listen, it’s not going to be easy to unseat my Republican opponent, who opposes the right to abortion even in our home state of New York. I’ve always been a champion for reproductive freedoms—and when I’m back in Congress, I’ll continue the fight to protect access to lifesaving reproductive care. Will you chip in $5 ahead of our crucial end-of-month deadline to ensure we have the resources to defeat rabidly anti-choice Mike Lawler?

To hear reproductive rights talked about like that was infuriating and scary. If any of the candidates who were on stage (or the absent Donald Trump) get elected, it's bad news for choice and our basic freedoms.

Mike Lawler continues to take a page from the national MAGA Republican playbook. He’s even gone as far as calling abortion rights a "distraction."

Well, I have one thing to say to Mike and all of his extreme Republican buddies: It's not a “distraction” when women are dying because they don't have access to health care. It’s not a “distraction” to have bodily autonomy and the fundamental right to decide whether or not to be a parent. If you won’t fight to protect every person’s right to comprehensive health care, you’re unfit to serve.

Our race is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive races in the country and we cannot risk losing any momentum.

We need leaders who will stand up for women's rights. I will always fight for reproductive freedom, including enshrining abortion care into federal law. Chip in $5 to make sure we have what it takes to flip NY-17 and get it done.

Let’s do this,

Mondaire Jones
