President's Message

It's time once again to apply for NASN's scholarships and research grants. This year, NASN is debuting the new Diversity in School Nursing Scholarship, which is intended to provide financial support for registered nurses employed in schools from historically underrepresented racial/ethnic backgrounds to pursue advanced education in health-related sciences.

This scholarship originated in honor of Donna Mazyck in 2023. Donna Mazyck, MS, RN, NCSN, CAE, served as the NASN Executive Director from 2011 to 2023 and as President of NASN from 2007 to 2009. Also a licensed clinical professional counselor, Donna was passionate about facilitating student well-being and success and connecting all the helpers (schools, students, families, agencies, communities) whose focus was on student health, safety, and learning. Learn more about all the scholarships and grants below in the Weekly Digest.

Also, don't forget that applications for Fellow and Honorary Fellow of NASN are due November 30. Get more information here.

Improving School Community & Student Health

Help Families Reduce Health-Related Absences

Health-related absences are one of the top reasons students miss school days and can quickly add up when a child has an undertreated chronic health condition, lacks access to care, or experiences anxiety or other mental health issues. Families may also need clarification on when to send a child to school after being told to stay home. NASN partnered with Attendance Works and Kaiser Permanente to release Health Handouts for Families to help reduce health-related absences.
