Our recap of the climate change conversation on the debate stage »
John, last night’s GOP Presidential Primary Debate gave us a glimpse of what kind of climate policy we’d expect with the Republican White House takeover.
And the candidate responses were horrifying.
Gov. Nikki Haley said that we didn’t need to do anything to combat climate change until China and India took action.
Mike Pence praised his Trump administration’s record of “opening up energy” (a.k.a. turning public lands into oil drilling free-for-alls).
And Vivek Ramaswamy called climate change a “hoax” and made his energy policy clear: “Drill, frack, burn coal.”
No matter who gets a polling bump after last night’s performance, it’s clear that our planet will be the biggest loser. No matter what any of the candidates believe, climate change is real. It is here. And we cannot risk giving any of them the power to undo all of the progress we’ve worked so hard for.
