At this stage of a lawsuit, it is typical and expected that a defendant would pursue a motion to dismiss. We were ready for her team to try this tactic, and we pretty much knew that what they submitted to the court would be a fantastical work of fiction wrapped up in legalese in an attempt to conceal how strong *our* case is, and how worried Boebert is about the eventual outcome.
Also of note from Boebert’s filing is the fact that she has retained the Colorado Springs based, Nussbaum Gleason, one of Colorado’s preeminent conservative law firms, who according to their website focuses on defending religious institutions and “traditionally minded” clients. The firm is noted for their ties to the Colorado chapter of the extreme right wing Federalist Society, an organization focused on packing America’s justice system from the Supreme Court to state level courts, with ultra-conservative judges.
Additionally, Boebert’s Team has brought in the West Group, a Denver law firm that focuses on political law. Suffice to say she is expending a lot of precious campaign resources to defend herself from our suit.
Our founder and President, David Wheeler, has been responding to media requests for comments and information about the case because we know that it is important for the public to understand what is happening and why:
“Boebert doesn’t seem to have read our complaint, nor listened to any of the recordings, nor read the text messages or emails we provided as exhibits in our complaint,” Wheeler said. “The recordings, emails, text messages, and other information provided by named sources were the basis for the allegations that she had abortions, was a paid escort, and used drugs and they are named in our complaint.”
Boebert accused us of knowingly making false statements about the corroborated information we received, researched, and subsequently released to the public so that they could make up their own minds about the evidence of Boebert’s shady past. We have repeatedly and consistently provided all of the corroborating evidence used to shine a light on Boebert’s past, details about herself that she worked hard to hide from the voters in her district.
We have been planning for this kind of response from Boebert, and we have a stellar legal team working on our official response. For now, we just want you to know: we are not going to back down just because Lauren Boebert and her Federalist Society lawyers want to play hardball.
When things get tough, we bare down and work even harder. And that’s why we need your support now more than ever. If you can help us by making a financial contribution of any amount, we are standing up for the public’s right to information about the people running to represent them in government and we won’t back down without a fight!
