Dove hunting season opens Sept. 1 in Nebraska

Dove season is almost here! The season will open Sept. 1, and Nebraska Game and Parks has some reminders for hunters, as well as recommendations for areas to hunt.

Doves are abundant statewide and, with generous bag limits, provide excellent wing-shooting opportunities.?Doves may be hunted statewide Sept. 1-Oct. 30, 2023, with daily bag and possession limits of 15 and 45, respectively.

Hunters may enter lottery for deer hunting access on the Central Platte

Hunters may enter a lottery to gain deer hunting access to Platte River Recreation Access lands in the Central Platte River Valley.?Fifty-five hunters will be chosen from a random drawing in early September and allowed to hunt deer on designated lands Nov. 16-19, 2023.

Hunters will see changes to HIP registration

Heads up, waterfowl hunters: HIP registration will be a little different this year. Hunters must now register for HIP through their customer profile in the new Nebraska Game and Parks permitting system [ [link removed] ].?

Anyone planning to hunt doves, ducks, coot, geese, snipe, rail or woodcock between Aug. 1 and July 31 of the following calendar year must register with HIP before hunting.?The program helps track the numbers of migratory birds harvested throughout the country.?
