MISSILE DEFENSE MONDAYS February 18 - February 24, 2020 THE WEEK IN BRIEF Click Here to Watch The Missile Defense Mondays Video On Thursday, it was reported Turkey had requested the U.S. to deploy two Patriot missile defense batteries to its southern border as clashes between Russian-backed Syrian troops and Turkish troops have increased. Turkey’s defense minister stated Turkey would consider similar support from European allies if it was offered. The U.S. has not officially acknowledged or responded to the request. On Friday, Saudi Arabia stated it had intercepted ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis at Saudi cities. The Houthis stated it had targeted Saudi Arabia’s Aramco facility and ‘sensitive targets’ in the city of Yanbu. On Sunday and Monday, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza launched over 80 rockets into Israeli territory. Israel’s Defense Force (IDF) said Iron Dome had intercepted a significant number of the rockets, but some rockets struck near homes and one hit a playground. There have been no reports of casualties as a result of the rocket attacks. Also on Monday, U.S. and Japan Armed Forces started the Resilient Shield 2020 exercise at Yokosuka, Japan and other command centers throughout the region. Resilient Shield is an annual computer simulated exercise that focuses on ballistic missile defense to improve interoperability between U.S. and Japanese forces in the region. MISSILE DEFENDER OF THE WEEK Major Jeffrey Fulton Maj Fulton is the Chief of Operations Branch Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA), Command and Control Operations Division, Operations Directorate, North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command (NORAD and USNORTHCOM), Peterson AFB, Colorado. He is responsible for Change Control and operational upgrades to the ITW/AA system which provides Missile Warning assessment and characterization data to the President of the United States, the Prime Minister of Canada, and Combatant Commands. When on shift in the N2C2 as a Missile and Space Domain Chief, Maj Fulton leads a domain that characterizes missile events in support of Commander, NORAD and USNORTHCOM missile attack assessments. Additionally, he monitors the system integrity of the $1.8B strategic and theater missile warning systems, assuring continuous warning coverage and notification to national and military senior leaders. Maj Fulton entered service as an honor graduate of the U.S. Air Force’s enlisted Basic Military Training course, eventually accepting an enlisted commissioning scholarship into the Reserve Officer Training Corps. He commissioned through the University of Nebraska and entered into the Space and Missile career field where he served as Assistant Executive Officer, Courseware Instructor, and Flight Commander for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Combat duty at Minot AFB, North Dakota. From there he attended Space Based Infrared System at Vandenberg AFB, California, culminating as Chief, Standardization and Evaluation for the 460th Operations Group at Buckley AFB, Colorado. Prior to his current position, he was the Commander of Air Force Technical Applications Center Detachment 45 at Buckley AFB, Colorado.
