Last week, representatives from 350 hosted a demonstration to oppose the
Vaca Muerta Sur oil pipeline that Argentina’s state-owned oil company,
YPF, is planning. Now, the pipeline is just days from being approved.

This dangerous new pipeline would export oil from Vaca Muerta in western
Argentina to the San Matías Gulf on the Atlantic coast, and it would have
incalculable negative impacts on both the global climate and the gulf
ecosystem — not to mention the local communities. We’re already
experiencing severe consequences of the climate crisis all over the world,
and we can’t afford to be set back even further.

This project will not only put Argentina further behind in the energy
transition, it will also endanger countless marine species that make their
home in the Argentine Sea and facilitate even more greenhouse gas
emissions that are warming our planet. Plus, the locals in the San Matías
Gulf area make their living from fishing, a vital source of income, which
will be threatened by the pipeline.

Local communities have voiced their opposition to the project loud and
clear, and now we need to use our reach to amplify the demand and create
the international pressure needed to halt the pipeline.

Climate change is a global issue that is already having dangerous and
deadly consequences for each and every one of us, whether in Argentina or
right here in the United States. So no matter where a new pipeline is
planned, it’s on all of us to speak up and apply the pressure needed to
stop it and save our planet and communities.
