Hey team,
I know it can be difficult to keep track of what in the world is happening in Washington sometimes, so I wanted to give you three quick updates on what I’ve been doing recently to serve Colorado’s 7th District. These are the kinds of issues that affect the lives of regular families all across our community — but you’ll rarely hear about them on cable news.
1) Just a few days ago, I introduced the CONNECT Act of 2023 , a bipartisan bill that would improve and strengthen the Department of Agriculture’s ReConnect Loan and Grant Program – making it easier for smaller providers to apply for funding and shorten required permitting deadlines.
That description might sound very technical, but the fact is, this bill would be a game changer for rural Colorado, and we need to get it passed. The internet isn’t a luxury anymore, and the longer these communities go without proper access to it, the more our country’s digital divide will grow. We need to ensure rural mountain communities have consistent access to the vital utilities they need.
2) Last month, I introduced legislation to improve access to mental health care services for America’s farmers and ranchers.
Farmers and ranchers are the backbone of many communities in Colorado, but some aren’t getting the support they need – especially in rural areas where care can be hard to find. Mental health care is health care, and I’m committed to ensuring every Coloradan has access to it, whether they’re children in school, workers ensuring we have food to eat, or seniors trying to enjoy a dignified retirement.
3) Finally, I was so excited to help announce a new $20 million grant to replace and improve a major road interchange in Lakewood.
As more people discover that CO-07 is a beautiful place to live, we’ll need strong infrastructure that improves traffic flow and makes it easy for all commuters to get around town. I’m serious about infrastructure, and I’m proud to help bring newer, safer roads and interchanges to our district.
Trust me, I know it can be virtually impossible to know what’s going on in Congress. If you got all your news from Twitter or cable news, you’d think it’s nonstop partisan warfare. And while I will always defend against attacks on our fundamental values, I’m also determined to make real progress for our communities wherever I can. And I’m so glad I’m able to share my work directly with supporters like you.
I’ll always work day and night for hard-working Coloradans, and I’m proud to help deliver results in every way I can.
