Friend,
In the year since the Supreme Court reversed 49 years of precedent, overturning Roe v. Wade, there has been extreme confusion nationwide between state legislators, healthcare providers, patients, and more about where and what kinds of abortion and reproductive care are truly legal.
In Oklahoma and Louisiana, unclear and contradictory laws have confused healthcare providers in emergencies, making them unsure of how to determine if a patient's duress fits the state’s definition of emergency and life-threatening.
Earlier this year, the Kaiser Family Foundation found that half of women across the United States are unsure if medication abortion is legal where they live. A third of women don’t know if emergency contraception like Plan B is available.
Democrats are working around the clock to ensure our communities understand their rights and where they can access care. But we know more is needed.
Make no mistake, with a majority in the House of Representatives, a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, and a Democrat in the White House – we will codify the right to abortion into federal law. And in 2024, we can get there if we focus and fight to elect Democrats in all chambers of government.
DONATE TO ELECT DEMOCRATS IN 2024 [[link removed]]
In 2022, Democrats lost key seats in the House of Representatives in our home state of New York. I am working alongside colleagues to ensure this does not happen again.
We can win back our House majority by winning in New York. With your support today and your ongoing support over the next year, [[link removed]] we will win in New York. We will win across the country. And we will win the fight to federally protect access to abortion care.
