Back to school shopping is in full swing. And, although inflation is down significantly from last year, prices are still high for families.

Shocking reports reveal that executives at top consumer brands and financial institutions, such as Clorox and Barclay’s, have exploited our record high inflation by dramatically raising prices. These greedy corporations are determined to keep prices high in order to pad their bottom line and enrich shareholders.[1]

But, even as corporations are raking in billions of dollars in profits, many are paying little or nothing in federal income taxes. That’s why, last year, Congress passed and President Biden signed into law a 15% corporate profits minimum tax on billion dollar corporations.

Now, instead of major corporations like Amazon and FedEx getting annual tax bills of $0, they’ll finally start paying more of their fair share. But, those corporations are fighting back, hiring high-priced corporate lobbyists in an attempt to maintain tax loopholes and keep their taxes extremely low.

The Coalition on Human Needs is rallying our allies across the country to fight back against corporate greed and urge the U.S. Treasury Department to close tax loopholes abused by major corporations.

Research shows that had we had a 15% corporate profits minimum tax back in 2021, we could have raised $14.3 billion in tax revenue just from Amazon, Ford Motor Company, AT&T, and Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway.[2]

Instead, corporations are paying millions of dollars to lobbying firms who are doing everything they can to block the tax from taking effect—including lobbying members of Congress and officials at the Treasury Department.

We cannot let them win—because when corporations pay their fair share in taxes, we can invest in families, communities and human needs.
