When Elon Musk took over Twitter, he promised to usher in an era of transparency and openness for the social media platform. Instead, he has turned “X” into a rampant breeding ground for hate speech.
Musk is currently suing the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), an organization that tracks online hate speech and misinformation, for its efforts to research how hate speech is growing on the social media platform.
This flies directly in the face of what Musk has claimed to be striving for since assuming ownership of the website. That’s why Lori and House Democrats are speaking up. They sent a letter to Musk slamming his attempt to stop the research of hate speech on his site and demanding answers about the platform’s policies surrounding transparency and accountability:

With online extremism and bigotry on the rise, we can’t afford to let Musk fuel this further by shutting down attempts to research the proliferation of hate speech on his website.
