John,
We deserve a world without police violence and without the trauma of mass incarceration. We need to end our country’s instinct to criminalize, and instead build systems of care that value the humanity in every person.
This is the vision Rep. Cori Bush is working for. As the first activist from the movement for Black lives to be elected to Congress, Cori is lifting up the movement’s demands into policy changes.
She just reintroduced the groundbreaking People's Response Act, which supports cities, states, tribal governments, and community-based organizations in launching and scaling public health alternatives to policing -- including investing in unarmed emergency first responders such as licensed social workers, mental health counselors, substance use counselors, and peer support specialists.
Cori also recently introduced the End Solitary Confinement Act, historic legislation which would end solitary confinement in federal prison and detention facilities and expand protections for incarcerated people’s right to due process. The bill would also incentivize states and local governments to end solitary confinement in state and local facilities.
On the House Judiciary Committee, she’s led efforts to hold the federal Bureau of Prisons accountable and end mandatory minimum sentencing laws. She’s championed policies to support families harmed by police violence, and to decriminalize drugs and expunge past drug convictions. And she continues to advocate for incarcerated people’s rights, including restoring voting rights and abolishing the death penalty.
Cori Bush is leading the push in Congress to reimagine public safety and to end the violence of police and prisons. Can you chip in to support that urgent work today?

As a nurse serving people with mental health crises, Cori witnessed punitive responses that harmed the vulnerable people in her care. And during the Ferguson Uprising, Cori herself was violently brutalized by police while trying to bring a woman to paramedics to help with a medical emergency.
Cori’s personal experiences drive her sense of urgency in Congress to save lives.
Together we will save lives by ensuring that when there is a health emergency, an appropriately trained and unarmed health expert is sent to support those in need -- rather than creating a potentially fatal and traumatizing encounter with law enforcement.
Together we will save lives by ending the heinous and immoral practice of solitary confinement.
United Nations experts have condemned solitary confinement as psychological torture -- and that’s exactly what it is. This practice is traumatic for people subjected to it and harmful to communities and loved ones. Moreover, it is disproportionately inflicted on Black and brown folks, young people, LGBTQ+ people, and other marginalized communities.
Cori Bush refuses to accept this status quo, and she understands how urgently we need change.
A bold leader in Congress, Cori doesn’t back down and she doesn’t take any money from corporate PACs. She works for the people, and our grassroots donations power her campaign.
Please donate today so together, we can urgently transform our system of public safety to center care, not criminalization or punishment.
