Friend,With the November election quickly approaching, we want to ensure that Democrats like you know about the outstanding state legislators and candidates running for office this year.
Our candidates are fighting to make New Jersey more affordable for families and seniors. They also have unique personal backgrounds and stories that make them uniquely capable of representing you and fighting for your family’s future.
Today, we are featuring our incredible state legislative team in the 16th Legislative District, which covers parts of Somerset, Hunterdon, Middlesex, and Mercer counties — State Senator Andrew Zwicker, Assemblyman Roy Freiman, and Assembly candidate Mitchelle Drulis! You can learn more about them below or by visiting their campaign website. [[link removed]]
[[link removed]] RE-ELECT STATE SENATOR ANDREW ZWICKER[[link removed]]The first Democrat to represent the 16th District in state history, Andrew Zwicker was elected to the State Assembly in 2015 and then to the State Senate in 2021 ( in fact, the only Democratic legislative pickup in 2021 in the country last cycle! [[link removed]] ). A physicist and educator, Andrew is the Head of Strategic Partnerships and Public Engagement at Princeton University’s Plasma Physics Laboratory, a world leader in developing an advanced form of energy known as fusion.
Andrew is a scientist who makes decisions based on evidence, not politics. As a State Senator, he has focused on growing our economy, increasing government transparency and accountability, fighting for reproductive freedom and access to women's health care, and protecting our environment. Andrew, along with Assemblyman Freiman, has helped the state save costs and increase its bond rating, putting money back into families’ pockets.
Andrew is running for re-election this November against extremist Mike Pappas, who wants to ban abortion “in all cases”, and supports insurance companies denying coverage for contraceptives. Imagine the future women and families would have if Mike Pappas were elected this November.
RE-ELECT ASSEMBLYMAN ROY FREIMAN[[link removed]]First elected in 2017, Assemblyman Roy Freiman is a husband, father, and former business leader who gets things done. He previously served as Vice President of Strategy and Analytics at Prudential Financial. In that position, he led a team that managed data analytics, developed strategic plans, and created innovative solutions to generate new business.
Roy left the private sector and ran for public office because he wanted to find ways to have government save costs and plan for the future. Roy uses his experience to invest in services like education, agriculture, open spaces, and road repair while rooting out wasteful spending. He has consistently ensured organizations like Planned Parenthood have funding to serve our community and protect a woman’s right to choose. Assemblyman Freiman's Debt Defeasance and Prevention Fund (S2944/A4162) bill, first signed by Governor Murphy in 2021 [[link removed]] , has been a key driver behind New Jersey's seven recent credit rating upgrades.
Assemblyman Freiman is running for re-election this November against Ross Traphagen and Grace Zhang, who are running alongside extremist Mike Pappas. Under Mike Pappas’s poor fiscal management as Township Administrator, Bridgewater Township’s bond rating was recently decreased from stable to negative [[link removed]] . Meanwhile, Assemblyman Freiman has led the effort to save costs and was instrumental in helping the state achieve historic credit rating upgrades.
ELECT ASSEMBLY CANDIDATE MITCHELLE DRULIS[[link removed]]As a mom, small business owner, and lifelong public servant, Mitchelle has dedicated her career to fighting for families and connecting them with local, state, and federal resources when they need them the most.
Mitchelle owns a Somerset County-based small business and has volunteered as a class mom at Copper Hill and Vice President of the Reading-Fleming Intermediate School Parent Teacher Organization in the Flemington-Raritan School District. No stranger to state government, Mitchelle began her career as a legislative aide to Assemblyman Bob Smith in December of 2000 before serving as the Chief of Staff to Assemblyman Joe Egan from 2002 to 2013. She rolled up her sleeves with all of us and helped elect former Congressman Tom Malinowski in 2018, and then served as his District Director, helping manage a constituent services program that assisted roughly 12,000 individual constituents across the district.
Having worked at the federal, state, and local level, Mitchelle has seen extreme Republican politicians across the country take away basic rights and freedoms from their constituents, and she’s running in the November election to prevent that from happening here in New Jersey. Mitchelle is running against Ross Traphagen and Grace Zhang, who are running alongside extremist Mike Pappas. While Mike Pappas is accepting money from Right To Life groups, Roy and Mitchelle have been unequivocally in support of protecting abortion rights in New Jersey.
Together, the Legislative District 16 Democratic Team will fight to make New Jersey more affordable, protect a woman’s right to choose, invest in public education, and preserve our environment and open spaces. Learn more about their priorities on their campaign website. [[link removed]]
