John,

When disaster strikes, our communities need a helping hand.

Severe storms, tornadoes, flooding, and wildfires are wreaking havoc across the country. And year after year, these natural disasters are becoming more frequent and more destructive. It’s not just a case of bad luck, but the results of climate change reaching a tipping point.

Now, our federal Disaster Relief Fund, which aids communities and individuals in times of crisis, is on the brink of running out. President Joe Biden has urgently requested $12 billion in emergency spending to ensure this vital lifeline remains available to those affected by hurricanes, wildfires, and other major disasters. Reaching this breaking point is just another example of how climate change is causing strain in every aspect of our lives.

As of now, the Disaster Relief Fund will face a staggering $4.3 billion deficit in September. The fund aids communities to clean up, rebuild after major disasters, and provides emergency aid to individuals for temporary housing and minor home repairs. But despite FEMA's earlier warning in April about the impending shortage, we’re facing an uphill battle to provide support in the wake of multiple natural disasters. Once again, it is up to our SEEC Members to ensure that FEMA is battle-ready for the climate crisis.

It’s time to get serious about protecting communities suffering from these disasters. SEEC members of Congress know we can’t afford to wait any longer. Will you let them know you’re standing with them and donate today?

Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
