Last election, Secretaries of State got A LOT of attention:

And for good reason: secretaries were on the ballot in 24 states where the officeholder serves as the chief election official.

Secretaries play the most important role in affirming the outcome of elections, but of the 24 races in play, 10 saw our Democratic candidates up against known election deniers. And John, these weren’t your grandfather’s Republicans:
Take Mark Finchem in Arizona, a literal member of the extremist Oath Keepers militia that was involved in Trump’s insurrection. Finchem himself was at the Capitol on Jan. 6, and could have been in charge of Arizona’s elections had we not stopped him.

Then there was Jim Marchant in Nevada, a MAGA Republican who submitted fake elector documents in 2020 to trick Congress into flipping Nevada’s results.

And there was Kristina Karamo in Michigan, who rose to prominence by falsely claiming she witnessed fraud as a poll watcher. Karamo still believes Trump was the true victor of the state. She also has yet to concede her own race.
We defeated these anti-democracy candidates thanks to unprecedented support from grassroots donors like you. But the battle for our democracy is far from over.

Across the nation, the GOP continues to embrace Trump’s Big Lie. At the state level, Republican legislatures are deliberately creating barriers to the ballot box.

Strong, Democratic Secretaries of State are our best line of defense against attempts to undermine democracy. We need to be prepared, which is why we’re laying the groundwork now.
