John,
I remember the first time I saw the Grand Canyon on one of my NASA missions.
I asked another astronaut what the mountain range I was looking at was.
He told me they weren’t mountains at all — it was a canyon. The Grand Canyon. And it’s as beautiful up there as it is down here.
After seeing it from space and taking several trips there, hiking along the rim, down to the Colorado River, and back out, I can say with some certainty that it’s one of the most special places in the world.
And I’m extremely proud that we’ll be able to protect even more of it thanks to President Biden’s designation of a million acres as Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument.
This is important, because it means we’ll be able to protect sites that are sacred to indigenous tribes from mining and further exploitation and preserve this land for future generations.
We’re celebrating that here in Arizona. And I want you to be able to celebrate, too.
Here’s the poster:
Most people chip in around $10. Some people give more, and that helps cover the cost for people who can’t afford to give as much.
But whatever you give, as long as it’s recurring, gets you the poster. These recurring donations are really important — both as we plot out our support for other campaigns this cycle, and make plans for the next several years.
So if you can, make that donation. Whatever you can afford is appreciated.
Thanks for your help, John. It means a lot to me.
Mark
