This Thursday is the one year anniversary of the Bipartisan Background Checks Bill passing the House -- a huge step forward on the path to end the gun violence epidemic.
This also marks one full year of Mitch McConnell refusing to introduce that bill in the Senate. 365 days of him rigging the system to appease the gun lobby.
A lot of work went into supporting this bill in the House. We packed the hearing of the bill with over 100 students, lobbied on the Hill, and emailed and called our representatives a lot. The passage of this bill was a huge victory for the gun violence prevention movement. So the fact that nothing has happened with the bill in an entire YEAR is…..beyond upsetting.
The worst part? Mitch McConnell hasn’t even brought the bill to a vote. He won’t even give peace a chance.
It’s time our senators stand up to the NRA, the gun lobby, and Mitch McConnell on behalf of the 97% of Americans who support background checks. It's time to bring this bill to a vote.
