Meta has intentionally changed Facebook’s algorithm to suppress Common Dreams and other digital news outlets.Friend,
Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has just publicly admitted something
that we’d long suspected: They’ve intentionally changed their
algorithm to suppress Common Dreams and other digital news outlets in
the Facebook news feed.
Of course, far-right conservatives on Facebook like Donald Trump, Dan
Bongino, and Ben Shapiro continue to get massive traffic. And
corporate-funded super PACs can pump unlimited amounts of money into
news sites to flood them with their lies and disinformation.
But in the words of one commentator, independent news outlets like
Common Dreams have been “nuked.”
If you’re getting this email, you probably don’t need Facebook to
help you find Common Dreams. However, one in three Americans rely on
Facebook for news, more than any other social media platform, and more
than all the cable news channels combined.
We can’t stress enough how damaging this could be to our ability to
find new readers, especially young people. And because reader donations
entirely fund us—we don’t take a dime in corporate advertising and
will never hide our journalism behind a paywall—this seriously
threatens our ability to fund our most basic operations.
To continue reporting the news you rely on in the face of these growing
threats, we need your help. Please make a donation toward our Summer
Campaign goal and make sure we can keep pursuing our mission to inform,
inspire, and ignite change for the common good.
