The Southeast District Office will be closed next Wednesday, August 30. District staff will not be available. Please email
[email protected] and email will be answered the next day. If you have an emergency please contact the District Superintendent at #573-270-1530. Emails will be checked on Thursday, August 31.
We will reopen on Thursday, August 31.
The Southeast District Office will also be closed Monday, September 4 for the Labor Day holiday.
Registration is Open for IN PERSON Courses-Saturday, September 30
Lay education courses offer opportunities for laity who desire to use their witness, leadership and service to inspire others to a deeper commitment to Christ and more effective discipleship. Registration is new open for several classes - both online and in-person, basic and advanced. Several Southeast District In Person courses will be offered Saturday, September 30 at First UMC (Sikeston). Many Grant Programs – Apply Today!
There are grant funds available through the Missouri Conference and its related entities for your new or existing ministry idea. Whether you’re planning a new place for new people, mission project or other ministry project, there’s a grant for that! Missouri United Methodist Churches can apply for funds through several grant programs supporting local ministry projects. We encourage you to apply for multiple grant opportunities. Each program has a different focus and requires a different application. Learn more about each at the links below:
New Places for New People: The Center for Congregational Excellence is accepting grant applications from now until October 1 from churches that are establishing new places for new people in the six categories of small group, recovery ministry, fresh expression, new worship service, collaborative parish, and new church or multi-site. Costner-Fulton: Missional outreach takes many forms, and the Conference Office of Mission, Service and Justice has grant funds to support your new, innovative, or one-time mission program and event. Past recipients have included a community garden project, freedom schools, senior outreach initiatives and more. Missouri UM Foundation: The oldest and largest grant program in our Conference, Foundation grants assist a wide variety of ministry projects each year. Learn more and apply at [link removed] [link removed].
Additionally, don’t forget about two grant programs with rolling deadlines, the [link removed] Library Builder Grant, offering funds for school-church partnerships, and the [link removed] Cooperative Response Grant, funded through the Festival of Sharing for ecumenical efforts.
Local Church Historian School
Enrollment is now open for the 2023-24 Local Church Historian School offered by the General Commission on Archives and History of the United Methodist Church. This school is for church historians—or anyone interested in the story of their church. The curriculum will cover a wide range of skills and will motivate participants to study and proclaim their unique stories to those around them.
The school will begin on September 4, 2023, and offers two formats. The guided course offers 3 Continuing Education Units, certification as a Local Church Historian, live webinars, one-on-one assessments, and a Local Church Historian’s tee shirt. The cost is $150.
A free, self-paced on-line course offers the same great learning without all the extras.

MUMF offers workshops
The Missouri Foundation will be offering a workshop for Clergy and Spouses at Memorial UMC, 425 North Street, Farmington, from 4-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29.
Join other clergy and their spouses for a time of learning, sharing a meal, and planning your future. The Missouri United Methodist Foundation and C2FM staff will be in a different district every day during the week of August 27 providing educational workshops for clergy. Workshops topics include: Learning about Clergy Well-being Grants and Saving Grace, Funding Retirement and Putting Your House in Order with will/estate planning and much more! Clergy who attend both the retirement and Putting Your House in Order portions of the workshop will be eligible for a $500 grant toward the creation of their will or estate plan.
