Later tonight, Republicans will be taking the stage for the first 2024 presidential primary debate. This will be a big moment for our democracy.

Even though Donald Trump refuses to attend, his presence looms large. He is currently ahead in all of the polls, even after being indicted four separate times.

The candidates on stage tonight will jostle, fight, and argue that they’re the best successor to Donald Trump — all while refusing to hold him accountable.

They will attack anyone who refuses to pledge loyalty to Trump. Like our Department of Justice. Our democratic institutions.

And people like me, who served on the January 6th Committee and have never shied away from taking on Donald Trump.
