Hi there — it’s Congressman Jamie Raskin, the Representative for Maryland’s 8th Congressional District.

Today, I am in Ann Arbor to announce my endorsement of my friend and colleague Elissa Slotkin to represent Michigan in the U.S. Senate.

I could run through all the bills Elissa and I have worked on together and issues we’ve stood shoulder to shoulder to fight for — on choice, on voting rights, on infrastructure, on gun violence and more. But today, I just want to tell you the things that come to mind to me when I think about her.

Elissa’s office is right across the hall from mine, so the first first people I see every day when I go to work are Michiganders lined up outside of her office. And the last people I see when I leave work everyday are Michiganders congregating outside of her office.

That’s because she’s meeting with her constituents straight through the day — veterans, students, farmers, labor representatives, small business people. And sometimes when they’re done meeting with her, they stop by my office to say hi. And they always tell me how much they love their Congresswoman.

She’s just about the most accessible politician you can find, and I know she will continue to be accessible to the people across Michigan.

Something else about Elissa: She’s tough. She’s someone you want on your side in a battle. She’s always fighting for the right things. She’s the type of tough and compassionate leader we need in the U.S. Senate, but she’s going to need our help to get there.

I told Elissa I would help her raise $10,000 to help her build the strong grassroots foundation she’ll need to win. Will you join me in supporting her by chipping in a few dollars to her campaign now?
