Friends,
This was a tough weekend. Twenty-nine Americans were killed and dozens injured in two mass shootings that should shake us all to the core. We cannot accept gun violence in our communities as normal, nor can we accept any notion that we are powerless to stop it.
After the school shooting in Parkland, FL, young people took action and demanded we take action against the gun violence epidemic. We’ve passed legislation in the House to require background checks on all gun sales and worked to close a loophole that allowed guns to fall into the wrong hands, but Mitch McConnell has refused to bring our bill to the Senate floor for a vote.
We deserve to hear from all presidential candidates on their solutions and plans to tackle this crisis, so I am asking all of them to participate in a Gun Violence Prevention Forum. Will you add your name to stand with me? ([link removed])
As a Mom’s Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate who’s been endorsed by the Gabby Giffords PAC: Courage to Fight Gun Violence, I made a promise to lift up the voices of people who are active around these issues.
We can pass universal background checks, put a ban on the sale of assault weapons, and pass a red flag law that would allow family members and the justice system to intervene and prevent someone from doing harm to themselves or others.
First, however, we need to hear from the candidates for president about their plans to tackle gun violence. The safety of our communities MUST be a top priority in Washington, and we can ensure that it is by electing a president who will champion gun violence prevention.
Please, will you add your name with mine today and call on the presidential candidates to participate in a gun violence prevention forum? ([link removed])
Thank you for standing with me,
Chris
